How Do You Feel? A Sacred Wellness Check-In
I just came back from yoga class and oh boy, did I work up a sweat. It was energizing, and I’m feeling hype today. Since it’s Wellness Wednesday, I want to talk about something that doesn’t get enough play when we talk about wellness: How do you feel? Like, truly, how do you feel emotionally?
The Truth About Our Emotions and Wellness
So often, we talk about wellness like it’s all about the green smoothies or the workout grinds. We forget to check in with our emotions. Over the last few months, I’ve been feeling a lot of discomfort. So much was coming up, and I had to get real with myself about where it was all coming from.
Even little things were off. My lighting setup looked different today because I tried to go live from my phone instead of my laptop—small changes, but they reminded me we’re always adjusting, always trying to feel just a little bit better.
How Stress Shows Up in the Body
Let me talk about how I was feeling at work. I work full time, and I noticed I could not fully breathe—taking shallow breaths all day. My gut was always tight. That’s dangerous, y’all, because what happens in our gut impacts our serotonin levels. And that’s the happy, feel-good stuff our bodies need. When your serotonin is low, depression slips in. I’ll keep it honest—depression scares me because I’ve been there. It almost cost me my life. I never want to be in that place again. So when I started noticing that stress, the lack of energy, the breakouts on my skin, I had to ask myself, what am I holding onto that’s not serving me?
Asking the Hard Questions
This week I’m off work, and next week too. My intention is to transition away from my full time job and serve as a full time spiritual coach and healer. That’s what feels right in my spirit. So I want to ask you: how often do you really check in with how you feel? Can you pinpoint what makes you feel good and what doesn’t?
A lot of us sit in relationships that don’t really make us feel good, hoping things will improve. The same can be true for work. I realized that if my job had been a relationship with a man, I would have quit on day one. Why was I holding onto something toxic and unhealthy—mentally, physically, and spiritually?
Why Do We Stay in What Hurts Us?
If something doesn’t make you feel good, why are you still doing it? Why are you allowing it? Really pause and consider: what do you want to change about it? And is there even potential for real change?
I noticed a pattern with my job—it was a cycle. Things would get a little better, I’d settle back in, convince myself it was fine. And then, something would happen and trigger a panic attack or bring on that anxiety all over again. The breakdown, the “I can’t do this” moment returned like clockwork. That’s what I call the cycle of drama. It creeps up in relationships too. There are good stretches, then boom—the drama hits again. Afterward, maybe things calm down, but then, if there’s no drama, we sometimes create it. That’s self-sabotage, plain and simple, because we get addicted to the chaos. We don’t believe things can just be good.
Recognizing the Drama Cycle and Choosing Joy
If you look at TV shows nowadays, so much of it is about drama. I don’t really watch TV, but when I do see what’s out there, it’s just endless drama. No wonder we keep replaying those patterns in our own lives. I had to face the fact that I was perpetuating it, too, until I realized life doesn’t have to be that way. Things can feel good. The question is: how do I want to feel?
I was shuffling my African goddess affirmation cards while reflecting on all of this. The card that came out was Yemaya, the Yoruba priestess and goddess of nature. The affirmation says, “I respect the seasons, patterns, and flow of life.” The lesson? When you feel unsettled, what do you do? How do you replenish yourself? What excuses do you use to hold yourself back? A positive daily routine and self-care reinforce your discipline and confidence.
Pouring Back Into Yourself
So, when you notice you’re drained or things feel off, what are you doing to pour back into yourself? Are you tending to your flow, or are you letting it get blocked and stagnant? Are you in winter, feeling cold and frozen over, or are you blooming in the energy of spring?
If your days are stacked with more heaviness and stress than joy, it’s time for radical self-care. Honestly, I’ve had high stress and anxiety lately—my nails show it. When I saw this showing up in my body, especially at work, I knew something had to change. I took time off so I could respect my own pattern and flow, to get myself unblocked.
Getting Back Into Alignment
When you learn to tap into how you feel, that becomes your compass. Here’s some spiritual truth—when you do not feel good, spiritually and energetically speaking, that’s a signal you are out of alignment with your highest self. Sadness, anger, depression, those are markers from your internal GPS. Your system is letting you know you’ve wandered off path.
How do you bring yourself back? For me, it’s aromatherapy, crystals, yoga, good-smelling candles. Journaling is big for me, too. I hang out with friends, meditate with my vision board, go walk outside, play with my baby girl Savvy. Sometimes it’s a movie night or dancing around the living room, just letting in some joy and magic.
Recently, I’ve been loving on my skin more, doing face masks, making my own toner, and caring for myself with intention. My skin was breaking out from stress, but now that I’ve stepped away from all that mess, it’s clearing up. I want my skin to reflect love—not just stress.
Facing Fear and Moving Beyond Self Sabotage
I see y’all in the comments talking about fear and self-sabotage. Yes, yes. Sometimes we’re afraid to feel good because we’re used to things being hard. Even in this business—being a healer means putting your baby, your creative gifts, out in the world for folks to judge. It’s scary, but it’s beautiful too. This week, I had a lot on my list that didn’t get done because of fear and self-sabotage. Instead of going live or sharing my calendar for readings and heart-to-heart sessions, I got busy with tasks that didn’t really matter.
I caught myself. Yoga helped me snap out of it today. Being intentional about doing the things that make me feel how I want to feel, not just stuck on the fear of growing or transitioning.
The fear is there—it’s real, but it just needs acknowledgment and release. That’s why having supportive communities means so much. You need people who’ll tell you, “Girl, you got this. We see you; we’re with you.” That support? It’s priceless.
The Power of Community and Sacred Spaces
I’m excited for what’s coming, especially the Spiritual Love Circle and Spiritual Love Week—a whole week where we talk about the real stuff: forgiveness, healing, love, co-parenting, red flags, all of it. I thought I needed to have everything perfectly structured, but now my spirit’s like, “Let’s just give it room to flow.” It’s going to be beautiful.
Comment, ask questions, share your feelings—this is your group. This is your sacred space. I also want to share some new groups I’ve added for you at the top of our page: Spiritual Love Aromatherapy for the Soul, where I’ll go deeper into essential oils, and the Lotus Blossom Sister Circle, a VIP space for my coaching clients. Soon, there’ll be the Spiritual Love and Life Sister Circle, a low-cost membership for women who need support but might not be able to do private coaching. I’m always wrestling with pricing—wanting to be accessible and also needing to sustain my family. My dream is to support every sister, no matter where she’s at.
Practicing Sacred Wellness in Everyday Living
Essential oils are my jam—I’m talking for hair, skin, cleaning, food. You want to make Chipotle rice at home? Add a drop of lime oil to your rice water and a little cilantro. You’re welcome. But I always share about oils from a spiritual angle because that’s how I came to love them.
The Lotus Blossom Sister Circle will be a space for paid clients, the Spiritual Love and Life Sister Circle is for broader membership support—all about healing and growth. I’ll bring in other beautiful women to teach and share. Everybody wins.
Let’s Practice Radical Self Love
I’m glad to be showing up in this way. My skin’s clearing, my energy’s lifting, and my joy is returning. Drop your comments, questions, or stories. If you need support, let me know. That’s why I’m here.
Thank you all for being here with me. I can’t wait for Spiritual Love Week and to connect deeper with each of you. Leave your comments and let me know how you feel after reading this, and remember, this is your community. Peace, y’all.
