There’s a special magic in being able to use tarot and oracle cards to explore the mysteries of life.
Especially those that reside in the supernatural, the unknown, and the transformative shifts that shape our paths.
As I’ve continued my journey into these realms, I realized that certain decks from my collection have a unique ability to pick up on these more elusive, shadowy, or profound energies.
In this post, I’m excited to share some of my favorites and explain why I believe they’re perfect for readings about supernatural happenings, paranormal activity, and the liminal spaces between what is seen and unseen.
Inviting Shadow and Mystery Into Your Readings
Sometimes, our standard decks, often bright and reassuring, just don’t cut it when you want to tap into heavier or more complex energies.
That’s where darker-themed decks shine.
One such find has been the Evil Eye Oracle, a deck designed to pick up on shadowy energy and subtle influences. It contains cards like Witchfire Spark and Hex Breaker’s Resolve, which bring depth and dimension to readings focused on spiritual protection, hidden motives, or energetic interference.
Another deck that stands out is The Way Home Tarot by Bakara Wintner. It balances lighter energies with a touch of shadow, stimulating intuition and personal connection.
With elements rooted in my own region and experience, this deck reminds me that tarot can be both a portal and an anchor, especially when navigating life’s mysteries.
Versatile Decks for Layered Readings
Variety is key when exploring the unknown. The High Vibes Tarot, a beloved, chunky deck I store in its own special bag, is one I appreciate for its diverse thematic cards.
It spans everything from abuse and inspiration to long-awaited returns and spiritual archetypes. Having a wide spectrum of energies at hand allows readings to reflect the complexities of supernatural phenomena.
Equally multi-purpose is the Symbolic Tarot. This deck incorporates symbols along its borders, from chakras and planets to runes and zodiac signs, delivering layered answers.
Whether you need a clear yes or no, or guidance on which crystals might be helpful for clearing a space, it’s an all-purpose tool for both divination and energetic work.
Embracing the Depths: Decks for Transformation and Liminal Spaces
Some decks are born for transitional readings, those that deal with what’s in between.
The In Between Tarot, crafted by Janine Worthington, beautifully illustrates energies merging from one stage to another. It’s perfect for exploring transitions in life, the spiritual world, or even the nature of the supernatural.
The Vice Versa Tarot and Tarot of the New Vision both provide unique visual perspectives, showing what’s behind the traditional imagery.
They’re fantastic for “seeing” what may otherwise be hidden, allowing insights on both the seen and unseen. I’ve found these decks invaluable for exploring new beginnings, changes, and deeper self-understanding.
Cosmic and Archetypal Journeys: Exploring Otherworldly Realms
The supernatural is often linked with cosmic energies and archetypes.
That’s why I’m drawn to decks like the Celestial Tarot, which intertwines astrology and astronomy, and Kim Kranz’s Wild Unknown series, including both the Archetypes and Alchemy decks. T
hese offer not only intuitive artwork but also robust guidebooks that delve into esoteric and philosophical ideas, making them ideal for exploring abstract or metaphysical questions.
Liquid Crystal Oracle, meanwhile, connects to ancient civilizations like Atlantis, weaving in crystal energies for healing and clearing. This deck works beautifully for both energetic protection and for identifying what needs to be released before or after supernatural work.
Whimsy and Wonder: Lightening the Load
Not all readings around the mysterious need to be heavy. Decks like Cirque du Tarot and Tarot in Wonderland infuse whimsy and storytelling, providing a light-hearted counterpoint to denser decks. Their imaginative artwork opens up another layer, making even the most challenging topics approachable.
Connecting with My Core Decks
This deep dive into my collection reminded me how powerful and diverse tarot and oracle decks can be for exploring the supernatural, mysterious, and unseen.
Revisiting these decks helped me reconnect, weed out what no longer serves me, and rediscover ones that still spark joy and curiosity.
As I move forward into more supernatural and mysterious readings, I plan to focus on a handful of core decks so I can form an even deeper relationship with them. I highly encourage you to do the same. Sometimes the right deck makes all the difference in unlocking new insights!
