For the longest time I’ve felt called to truly focus on serving the Black Community. I just wasn’t sure how to do that.
In fact when I initially opened The Kulture Spa, it was to focus on my people. Hence Kulture, however I also wasn’t trying to be exclusive.
I shared with someone that I wanted to help more Black people understand and experience the benefit of bodywork and was told that “focusing on us I would go bankrupt”.
That caused me to shift and create a more diverse space that wasn’t centered on Blackness. In doing so I met amazing clients from all walks of life, but I also build a business that I didn’t love and enchanted types of clients that I never want to work with again.
When I went on maternity leave, part of why I chose an extended leave was:
One – I was forced to, due to a shady landlord. Don’t worry I’m going to talk about that.
Two – I didn’t want to return to a business that I was forced to create
When I opened, It was never my intention to be a massage focused spa. It was supposed to be everything that Sacred Wellness Alchemy™is. Holistic, energy based, spiritual and ancestral.
I’ve been teetering back and forth on who do I want to serve and how I can serve my community without offending people.
The answer is by serving my community and not caring who is offended. The people who align with me, no matter their race, will appreciate what I do. Those that are offended were never meant for this work.
Sacred Wellness Alchemy™is ancestral. I come from a long line of healers on both sides of my family. My work is meant to change lives and everyone can benefit from it, but I know who needs it most.
The people that are living in constant stress, who don’t feel safe in their bodies and those who for generations weren’t able to be who they are.
I wanted to have conversations specifically around issues that affect Black Americans and created The BLACKprint Show. I felt it needed to be separate, but that didn’t feel right.
So, I pressed pause to see how all of this was integrated.
I was reminded that Sacred Wellness Alchemy™is ancestral and that I am the connecting factor. I do not have to be politically correct. What does that even mean in today’s political climate?
Everything that we do, honors our Ancestors in some way… be it good or bad. I cannot do this work without integrating Ancestral and spiritual practices.
Also, I don’t have to code switch or shy away from who I am which is a Black Woman. Everything I write about and share is through that lens. Like everything else I’ve been doing, The BLACKprint was already coded into my work. I just hadn’t made the connection to bring it forward.
Rather than having The BLACKprint Show exist as a standalone, I’ve decided to bring it into the fold as a category on my blog and integrate it into the existing Sacred Wellness Alchemy™Show. These conversations are needed and matter because they affect our health and wellbeing.
Stay tuned as I shift and evolve to align my mission, my work, my words, and my presence all in the name of liberation and wholeness. I love that I’m in a space where everything I do is coming together.
