Last year, I was placed in a position where rest was not just suggested, it was required.
What unfolded during that stillness has shaped me in ways I’m only now beginning to fully understand.
Facing forced rest revealed layers of my reality I’d been either unaware of, or simply accepting out of habit. In those quiet weeks, I saw clearly that I’d been overworking and pouring my energy into tasks that didn’t truly align with my heart’s intentions or deeper goals.
I took this time to re-evaluate my priorities; especially my health, my wellness, and my role as a mother. I discovered the necessity of carving out real pockets of spaciousness, even amidst responsibility.
For a while, it felt like I’d lost my creative spark. Art, photography, scrapbooking, playing in the kitchen… all the ways I’d once expressed joy and creativity had quietly slipped away. But as I settled into rest, I realized that spark wasn’t lost. My energy was simply being diverted elsewhere, and there hadn’t been room for anything playful, light, or fun.
With nowhere to go and nothing I had to do, I found myself with time. Genuine, unstructured time to sit and sift through what belonged in my life, and who belonged.
Where was I on my healing path?
What relationships, rhythms, or beliefs still served me?
Healing took on a whole new meaning. I saw it not as an arrival point, but as a living, evolving journey. Some wounds I thought I’d resolved resurfaced in new ways, asking for fresh perspective and a deeper kind of compassion.

Being pregnant brought up old stories and feelings from previous pregnancies. Things like fears, frustrations, times I hadn’t advocated for myself the way I needed to. This time, I made space to shift those patterns.
This experience, while not easy, allowed me to have the supportive, nourishing pregnancy and birth I’d long hoped for, surrounded by those who genuinely cared.
Letting go became a practice. Some choices were out of my hands, and my energy needed to focus on what was within reach. For me, that was keeping my mind, my body, and my spirit in a good place.
In surrendering control, I found deeper peace and presence.
That period of rest allowed me to evolve, not only as a mother, but as a woman, a business owner, and a creative soul. It brought me back to what lights me up: my art, my spiritual practices, the simple joy of dreaming again.
I treated myself to new brushes and watercolor paints, allowing art journaling to be both a practice and a gentle celebration of returning to myself.
With a new baby in my arms, those creative pockets aren’t always easy to find. Yet simply knowing they’re waiting has invited happiness back into my days. Leafing through my sketchbook, I’m reminded of what I’ve created before. Old pages inspire new visions and the desire to make beauty, just for the joy of it.
More than anything, this spacious pause realigned me with my true path. Even as I navigated launching my business, I was pushed into rhythms that didn’t fully honor my vision. I love the healing work I do, but I learned that being stretched thin doesn’t serve my deepest intentions.
Rest granted me room to imagine what my work and my life could authentically become, letting me restructure from a place of clarity and trust, rather than control or worry.
These gentle pauses are vital. Whether you call it sabbatical, leave, or simply a creative intermission, I believe everyone can benefit from carving out time that is wholly and unapologetically for you.
Let it be a space for your own evolution and emergence.
If you’re feeling the call, I invite you to notice where you might add a pocket of rest into your daily rhythm. What might become possible if you allowed yourself even a brief pause. Space to listen to what your heart, body, and spirit most need?
May you find grace in the places you surrender.
May your own pockets of rest realign you with what lights you up.
